Joyous Glorious Resource Centre (JGRC) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Sitiawan, Perak that provides remedial assistance to primary and secondary students as well as adults with a view to upgrade their foundational knowledge through educational programmes. The centre has a total of around 150 students from year 10 to year 12.
20 students and 2 teachers from JGRC travelled from Perak to Taylor's University Lakeside Campus for a workshop titled “A Cup of Joe - Introduction to Barista Skills” conducted by Ms. Michelle Lee Gee Wey, Programme Director, Diploma in Hotel Management from Taylor's Culinary Institute (TCI).
This workshop shared about the basic introduction to coffee which includes type of coffee bean, different types of coffee equipment and what are the skills required to be a Barista, how to consider a cup of coffee as a perfect brew and many more.
The workshop continued with a live demonstration where Ms. Michelle demonstrated skills of using semi-auto coffee machine that included brewing of espresso and techniques of making café latte using different equipment. The students were given opportunity to experiences brewing coffee for their friends. The participants were all excited and interacted with many questions about coffee during the Q & A session.
