Appointment of Prominent Professor & Industry Leaders as Visiting & Adjunct for H&T Programme


We are pleased to announce the appointment of prominent professor & industry leaders as Visiting & Adjunct for School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events (SHTE). They are Mr. Miguel Maldonado, Former Residential General Manager for The Ritz Carlton Residence Malaysia; Mr. Roy Cheng Yew Chuan, Managing Consultant, Restaurant & Catering Academy Sdn. Bhd.; Ms. Maria Christina G. Aquino, Chair of the Tourism Industry Board Foundation Inc. (TIBFI) and Dr. Carlos Martin-Rios, Associate Professor, Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne HES-SO, University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland.



Mr. Miguel Maldonado with his 16 years of Hospitality Management experience, 12 years of Law Enforcement experience, and 13 years of Sales and Marketing experience from being a Hotel and Residential General Manager, Executive Protection Specialist and Law Enforcement Intelligence & Financial Crime Investigations is strongly founded in the Hospitality culture.


With his stint as Residential General Manager for The Ritz Carlton Residence Malaysia, he was responsible for managing the luxurious residential apartment suites and responsible for talent management. His expertise in Hospitality Management and Leadership strategies has brought in invaluable teaching to the students of Bachelor of International Hospitality Management (Hons) programme.



Mr. Roy Cheng Yew Chuan holds a National Record in The Malaysia Book of Record for the most number of External Training Sessions conducted for Hotels by an Individual for the year 2021. He was also the ASEAN Master Trainer for F&B division from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysian between 2017 and 2019. As a business owner running the day-to- day functions of the business in term of delivering hospitality and management training and consultancy.


His main focus is on strategic directions of the business and also hands-on facilitating training programmes, meeting and engaging clients on consultancy projects. In his capacity as Assistant Vice President Resort World Genting, was to support the Vice President (General Manager) and directly managed the day to day running of the hotel, provide direction and guidance to employees to achieve and exceed the goals set. Apart from the above he held reputed positions as a Training & Development Manager in Sunway Resorts, F&B Manager at Swiss Garden Resort. He was also the Head of Technical Studies at Taylor’s College responsible for students placement and managing service restaurants. He is also the alumni of Taylor's University.



Ms. Maria Christina G. Aquino is the Chair of the Tourism Industry Board Foundation Inc, (TIBFI), the designated National Tourism Professional Board in the implementation of the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement for Tourism Professionals. She is an Associate Board Member of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines (HRAP). Ms. Aquino is a member of CHED Technical Committee of Tourism and Hospitality and a member of the NCR Regional Quality Assurance Team (RQAT); a resource person for TESDA specifically in the Tourism sector; an ASEAN Master Tourism Assessor for Housekeeping and a DTI Philippine Quality Award (PQA) Assessor. She is a Past President of the Council of Hotel and Restaurant Educators of the Philippines (COHREP), Asia Pacific Council of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (APacCHRIE), and a former Board & Corporate Secretary of International Center for Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE).


Ms. Aquino has retired from Lyceum of the Philippines University, Manila where she was the Executive Director for Linkages & Standards and International Affairs Office and Deputy Integrated Management Representative for various ISO programs (QMS & EMS) and oversaw institutional and program quality assurance programs in the University. She was also Dean of the College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management. She has teaching and administrative experiences in post-secondary school settings including a state university (University of the Philippines Diliman), a private technical vocational school offering Culinary Arts programmes (Center for Culinary Arts, Manila) and a private non-sectarian university (Lyceum of the Philippines University Manila). Aside from teaching and administration, she was a Flight Attendant (Cathay Pacific Airways) and Cabin Services Line Instructor (Qatar Airways), an Entrepreneur of Foodservice Facility (5A Resources Inc), and Liaison Officer of a quasi-government agency (Philippine Phosphate Fertilizer Corporation).


She is an author of several books, journal articles, completed research papers in Tourism and Hospitality areas, and has been invited as speaker in several workshops, conferences, locally and internationally. She has undertaken various local and international consultancy projects in Tourism and Hospitality operations. Ms. Aquino holds the qualifications of BS HRA (cum laude); MA in Education, major in Educational Administration, and has completed all the academic requirements for a PhD in Education, specializing in Curriculum Studies. She has the following certifications such as AHLEI’s Certified Hospitality Education (CHE) and Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP), Certified Microsoft Office Specialist (Office Word 2016), STR Hotel Industry Foundations Introduction to Analytics (HIFIA), and ASEAN Master Assessor for Housekeeping.



Dr. Carlos Martin-Rios is an Associate Professor of Management at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne HES-SO, University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland. He has been the recipient of EHL's Best Researcher Award (2019) and two times finalist (2017 & 2018). His research lays at the intersection between sustainability and innovation management and addresses how management theories can be applied to tackle grand challenges, notably in the food value chain and its environmental, societal and financial problems, such as greenhouse gases, degradation of natural resources and health problems caused by hunger and food waste, as well as Sustainability-Oriented Innovation (SOI) (innovation management systems, sustainable business models and practices) in the service industry. He has authored over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and his recent article on food waste innovation has been downloaded over 45k at ResearchGate.


Dr. Martin-Rios has been involved in national and international projects with senior management teams to develop company individual innovation strategies and sustainable development plans and to assist numerous startups in negotiating research, licensing, and collaboration. His experience encompasses knowledge-intensive service firms, including top management consulting firms, airline companies, global hospitality, and foodservice firms around the world. He sits on the advisory board of three fast-growing sustainability startups and acts as advisor to various companies and research centers on sustainable innovation management programs. His current project is the launch of the Research Institute of Sustainability Innovation (SI@EHL) to promote research, educational, and leadership initiatives into sustainability innovation, management, and leadership in the service industry.
