Taylor's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SLAS) introduced Master of Counselling programme to meet the national demands for Mental Health Experts that was made apparent during the pandemic. This programme addresses this agenda whereby counselling ensures that people having difficulty coping with anxiety during social isolation or living with uncertainty can have access to the much-needed support and assistance provided by Counsellors. To produce competent Counsellors with empathic understanding and the upcoming digital skills, SLAS makes an initiative to engage with Counsellors and Practitioners globally.
With this endeavor, the School is proud to announce the appointment of Prof. Dr. Zaidy Mohd Zain as the International Adjunct Professor. Prof. Dr. Zaidy is passionate about the global education and applicability of counselling concepts across national boundaries and cultures, especially on issues such as family well-being, crisis interventions. Hence, he will be delivering lectures in this area to the students to nurture and train them to be an effective and ethical members of the counselling profession. Prof. Dr. Zaidy is a globally prominent expert in counseling. He is currently working at Texas A&M University - Commerce in the United States of America since 2018. He has been working at several institutions since the beginning of his career in academia. He was also a former Associate Professor at Delta State University (1993-1997), Chair and Professor at the Educational Leadership and Counseling Department for Southeast Missouri State University (2008-2018) and Professor at Southern Arkansas University (2008-2018).
Backed by his over 30 years of academic experience, Taylor's University has appointed him as an International Adjunct Professor for the Master of Counseling programme. The journey of becoming an academician started when he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration at Western Michigan University (1981). He then pursued a Master of Public Administration (1983) and Master of Arts in Counseling (1989) both from the University of Illinois Springfield. He has been honored with a doctorate after he graduated Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision at Kent State University (1995). Apart from teaching and doing administrative works, Prof. Dr. Zaidy has also been appointed as editorial board membership in several journals such as The Missouri Professors of Educational Administrations, The Family Journal: Counseling and Therapy for Couples and Families, The Asia Pacific Journal of Educators and Education, The Journal of Interdisciplinary Research in Education, The Journal of Counseling, and The Journal of International Counselor Education. He has presented about 71 related issues globally in counseling from the year 1991 until 2022.
In April 2022, Prof. Dr. Zaidy has been awarded The Brad Chilcote Endowed Professorship in Counseling for addressing an effective initiative on mental health in the East Texas region. As an expert in counseling field, Prof. Dr. Zaidy was appointed to be an External Examiner, Dissertation Committee Member, External Programme Reviewer and Visiting Professor for Malaysian universities at the international level. He is also registered in several established international professional memberships including the International Association for Counseling (IAC), American Counseling Association (ACA), World Council of Curriculum and Instructions (WCCI), Chi Sigma Iota, Association of Psychological and Educational Counselors of Asia Pacific (APECA), and American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). His active contributions led him to establish much networking for university exchange programmes internationally.
Prof. Dr. Zaidy has many outstanding professional services as he served in several professional bodies in the United States. He served as a member of the State of Arkansas Professional Licensure Standards Board (PLSB), appointed as a Peer-reviewed for Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association and served as a Site Reviewer for the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programme (CACREP). Currently, he is serving as a Site Reviewer for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation Programme (CAEP).
