Media & Communication Lecture Series: Blaming Others: Stigma in Malaysia & Indonesia amidst Covid-19


On 13th May 2020, School of Media and Communication (SOMAC) successfully organized the Media and Communication Lecture Series (MCLS) 02/2020. The invited guests were Dr. Ika Karlina Idris, Director of Research, Paramadina Public Policy Institute at Universitas Paramadina and Dr. Nuurianti Jalil, an incoming Assistant Professor at Northern State University in South Dakota, USA to present a session on research they had conducted which entitled: “Blaming Others: Stigma in Malaysia and Indonesia amidst COVID-19”.


The session was conducted virtually using Zoom where participants could join and ask questions. It was also broadcasted on the SOMAC Facebook page.



The Zoom meeting had 72 participants who attended the session. Dr. Ika and Dr. Nuurianti shared about their research project where they examined thousands of Twitter posts in Malaysia and Indonesia about the coronavirus.

The Q&A session yielded many questions from the audience who were keen to find out more about this urgent and current issue.
