Brewing Mastery: From Sips of Tradition to Bites of Art, TCI Crafts a Memorable Open Day Experience

Taylor’s University proudly hosts its Open Day three times a year, welcoming parents, prospective students, and visitors to the Grand Hall. Since 2023, Taylor’s Culinary Institute (TCI) has elevated the experience by serving exquisite refreshments ranging from freshly brewed coffee and fragrant teas to delicate macarons and indulgent chocolate tarts.

In August 2025, across the weekends of 9–10 and 16–17, the initiative was spearheaded by Michelle Lee, Programme Director of the Diploma in Hotel Management, together with Chef Aaron Tang, Lecturer at Taylor’s Culinary Institute. Supported by eight dedicated students, the team showcased the true spirit of hospitality by preparing more than one thousand handcrafted beverages for guests. The menu featured classic favourites such as coffee, cafè latte, cappuccino, Americano, and green tea, alongside two signature creations in honour of Malaysia’s Independence Month. The Hibiscus Tea offered a refreshing tribute to the national flower, while the Kopi Merdeka Latte, a unique blend of espresso, gula melaka, and coconut milk symbolised heritage and unity.

To complement the beverages, Chef Aaron and his students created an indulgent trio of signature tarts: Chocolate and Passion Fruit, Wild Blueberry, and Frangipane. More than five hundred elegantly packaged dessert boxes were prepared as thoughtful take-home treats, delighting visitors with a taste of TCI’s artistry. Beyond refreshments, the initiative also served as a meaningful learning platform. Students refined their technical and service skills while engaging directly with visitors, sharing their stories, enthusiasm, and passion for the hospitality industry. Guests, in turn, enjoyed warm conversations with students and experienced first-hand the creativity, professionalism, and genuine hospitality that define Taylor’s.

Adding to the excitement, Dato’ Loy Teik Ngan, Group Executive Chairman, and Professor Dr. Neethiahnanthan Ari Ragavan, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences & Leisure Management, also visited the booth. They commended the students’ efforts and took the opportunity to engage with them personally, further underscoring the strong support and recognition given to TCI’s initiatives.
