Hotel Management Student Crowned Champion at Unite Malaysian Taste Challenge 2026

Diploma in Hotel Management student Wong Yu Wen was awarded the Champion title at the International Café & Beverage Show (ICBS): Unite Malaysian Taste Challenge 2026 – Novice Division, held on 7 May 2026, for his award-winning mocktail creation, Taro Violet. Inspired by the distinctive flavour profile and aromatic characteristics commonly associated with taro, Taro Violet was innovatively developed without the use of actual taro. The mocktail comprised a refined blend of four carefully selected ingredients, enhanced through the application of the nitro technique to achieve a smoother texture and an elevated sensory profile. The concept and execution were highly commended by the judges for their creativity, technical precision, and attention to detail.

This achievement reflects the student’s creativity, technical competency, and commitment to the café and beverage industry. The competition served as a valuable platform for emerging talent to demonstrate innovation while gaining meaningful industry exposure and professional experience.
