Mind in Motion Across Borders: Advancing Neuroaffirming Approaches to Adult ADHD

The Master of Clinical Psychology Programme, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Taylor’s University pleased to share that Dr. Mohd Akif Farhan Ahmad Basri was invited to deliver an academic engagement session at the University of San Jose–Recoletos, Philippines. The session engaged approximately 200 third-year undergraduate psychology students in an enriching academic exchange. Titled Mind in Motion: Navigating Adult ADHD with Strength and Strategy, the session reflected a meaningful example of international collaboration in advancing psychological education.
The session focused on developing a deeper understanding of adult Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), with particular emphasis on a neuroaffirming perspective. Students were guided through contemporary insights into how ADHD presents in adulthood, moving beyond deficit-based narratives towards a strengths-based understanding. The session also explored practical strategies to support individuals with ADHD in ways that are respectful, empowering, and aligned with lived experiences.

Throughout the session, students actively engaged in discussions on reframing ADHD within both clinical and everyday contexts, including how clinicians and future practitioners could adopt more inclusive and evidence-informed approaches. Emphasis was placed on bridging theory with practice, equipping students with perspectives that were both clinically relevant and socially responsive.
The session concluded with an interactive exchange, during which students reflected on key takeaways and posed thoughtful questions on clinical applications and future directions in ADHD support. The engagement demonstrated strong interest in evolving approaches to mental health that prioritise dignity, individuality, and functional strengths.
Overall, the academic session provided a valuable platform for cross-institutional learning and exchange, reinforcing the importance of global perspectives in psychology education. It also highlighted Taylor’s University’s ongoing commitment to contributing to the broader psychological community through knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the promotion of progressive, evidence-based practices in mental health.
