STEM TeachFest 2026: Play, Think, Solve, and Share

The School of Education (SoED) successfully hosted TeachFest 2026 on 11 March 2026, themed “STEM Problem-Based Learning.” The event brought together student teachers and children from alternative learning centres for an interactive morning of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) exploration. This initiative advances educational equity by providing inclusive STEM learning opportunities for children from marginalised communities, who might otherwise have limited access to quality education.

A highlight of the event was the station games, where student teachers from three SoED modules, Statistics, Science: Systems and Cycles, and Science: Energy and Interaction designed hands-on activities that applied STEM concepts through problem-based challenges. Each station encouraged participants to explore ideas, think critically, and collaborate with peers to solve real-world problems. By integrating multiple disciplines, the activities helped children understand how STEM concepts intersect in meaningful and practical ways.

Fifty primary school children from Yayasan Chow Kit and Agape Learning Centre participated, enjoying a supportive, game-based environment that fostered curiosity, creativity, and teamwork. For student teachers, TeachFest offered a valuable opportunity to apply their pedagogical knowledge in an authentic setting. The experience strengthened their confidence and professional skills while demonstrating how innovative, student-centred teaching strategies can make learning more inclusive, engaging, and impactful for all learners.
