Tourism Speakers Series 2023: Tourism Integrated Project on Sustainability of Heritage Tourism


A Guest Lecture session was organized by the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events with the objective to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and skills related to Sustainable Heritage Tourism.


Around 30 students from the Bachelor of International Tourism Management (Hons) programme participated in this 2-hour online session. Dr. Khairunnisak Latiff, Senior Lecturer at the School of Business and Economics, Universiti Putra Malaysia was invited as a Guest Speaker to share her knowledge and experiences in sustaining Heritage Tourism in Malaysia. Her lecture session covered several essential components of heritage tourism such as the definition, characteristics and pillars of sustainability.

She explained the concepts and development of heritage tourism based on her experiences and studies. Through this session, the students gained a deep understanding of sustainable heritage tourism and acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in preserving and promoting sustainable practices at heritage sites. These students are expected to utilize and apply this knowledge in their project-based module - 'Tourism Integrated Project', where they are currently working on various projects such as Heritage Tourism of Klang and Bukit Melawati and Agrotourism at Kalumpang, Tanjung Malim, Selangor. They are required to promote the heritage tourism through customized tour packages.

The engaging discussion encouraged students’ active participation in the session. The lecture series was a very insightful session for the students.
