Certified Event Management Tutor Qualification by APIEM

On 16 October 2019, the Asia Pacific Institute for Events Management (APIEM) announced that the Event Management Lecturers at the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events (SHTE) are certified as Event Management Tutors. This certification is provided to event management academics who have demonstrated competence in teaching at an international standard in the areas of preparing the event, planning the event, organizing the event and managing the event. This Certified Event Management Tutor Qualification has been awarded to other academics within the region, but we are the only ones in Malaysia to receive such honour!

Accredited as the International Centre of Excellence in Event Management

It was a fruitful two days of audit by the Asia Pacific Institute for Events Management (APIEM) on 15 – 16 October 2019. The School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events is now accredited as the International Centre of Excellence in Event Management with a 4 stars category. This international accreditation endorsed that our event management programmes are of an international standard and APIEM’s accreditation process is based on UK government guidelines for accreditation and is benchmarked to the UK National Occupation Standards for the Events Industry. Students on APIEM International Centre of Excellence courses can be assured of the relevance of their qualifications for careers within the events/MICE industry.

IGEM – A Convention with a Cause

The International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) organized by the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation has reached its 10th edition. Students from the Convention and Meetings Management module (EVT60704) had the opportunity to attend the event at KLCC on 11 October 2019 and were warmly welcomed by the organizer’s assigned teams upon arrival for a tour of the event.

The 54 students enrolled for this semester managed to observe the various segments of exhibitors that participated and showed support for IGEM. It was enlightening for them to enquire at the various booths displaying green technology and sustainable products. They also surveyed the facilities that were provided by the organizer to cater to the diverse groups of exhibitors, many of whom were invited from the European Union and Asia Pacific countries.
