Celebration of Malaysia Merdeka Day - "A Tribute to Tunku"


The School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SLAS) has successfully organized a thought-provoking webinar to commemorate Malaysia Day on 31st August 2021. This webinar is also part of Taylor's Malaysian Politics and Public Issues (MPPI) webinar series, running fortnightly since 27th May 2021. MPPI webinar series are platforms created collaboratively by Zubedy (M) Sdn Bhd and Taylor's University to educate Malaysians and other interested non-Malaysians about various areas of MPPI knowledge. At the same time, the talk series serves as a resource for students of the Bachelor of Social Science with Honours (International Relations) and Bachelor of Social Science with Honours (Social Innovation and Change) taking the module Politics and Public Issues in Malaysia.

Adjunct Professor Anas Zubedy, the Social Innovation Director for the Bachelor of Social Science programme, moderated the MPPI Webinar Series. The webinars educated the public on topics such as the Malaysian Constitution, Rukunegara, Parliamentary Democracy, Elections, and so on. Prof. Dr. Shad Saleem Faruqi; Dr. Chandra Muzzafar, Ministers and Former Ministers, Members of Parliament, Diplomats, Journalists, and Experts are among the high-profile speakers who were part of this webinar event. To commemorate Malaysia's Independence Day, the Webinar places a spotlight on "A Tribute to Tunku Abdul Rahman."

In addition, the webinar reflects on Tunku's dreams, hopes, and visions for the country. Emeritus Prof. Datuk Dr. Shad Saleem Faruqi's key special talk for this webinar is titled "Tunku and the Malaysian Constitution." This speech explained how Tunku hoped to unite all Malaysians through the Constitution. Over 1000 people attended this webinar via the Zoom platform and Facebook Live.
