Recently, Taylor's Culinary Institute (TCI) has organized a Dining Etiquette Workshop for the students and teachers from Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah (SSAS), Putrajaya. The group was also offered an exclusive 3-course lunch dining experience at our practical restaurant. SSAS is a fully residential school in Putrajaya and one of the country's High-Performance Schools. In 2014, the Ministry of Education recognized it as one of Malaysia's Ten Schools of Global Excellence (SGE), citing its academic excellence, strong alumni network, international recognition and extensive linkages. His Royal Highness Sultan Selangor is the Royal Patron of the school.
In order to enhance the knowledge of ‘Fine Dining’, Ms. Jasmine Chen Yar Li, Lecturer of Diploma in Hotel Management conducted a Dining Etiquette workshop for 20 Form 5 students and two teachers who visited Taylor's University. The workshop covered various topics on proper behavior of fine dining such as proper dress code, understanding and reading the menu presented, anticipate the duration of dining, knowing the usual fine dining table settings including the steps of using each utensils provided on the table and how to communicate with the server and the guests corresponding in the volume of their voice and gesture during the conversation.
After the workshop, the students and teachers were invited to enjoy a 3-course meal prepared and served by the Diploma in Hotel Management students at Thyme Restaurant. The meal included a Prawn Cocktail starter, Steaks au Poivre with Black Pepper Sauce, Sliced Shallow Glazed Vegetables & Pasta Pesto as the main course, and Dessert of the Day with coffee or tea.
For both students and teachers from Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah, this was indeed a valuable and eye-opening experience for them.
