A documentary written by Associate Professor Dr. Li Qiao from School of Media and Communication, Taylor’s University, has been selected to compete at next year’s AVIFF Cannes Art Festival. The documentary, entitled ‘The Malayan Tiger: It’s Now or Never!’ was directed by Malaysian filmmaker Raja Mohamad Amin Raja Azhar. According to Dr. Li, this is a huge milestone for Taylor’s University and its students as it is important for universities with film studies courses to have staff members involved in the film industry.
Commissioned by the Energy and Natural Resources ministry, the film sheds light on the challenges of protecting the native tiger subspecies that are on the verge of extinction due to illegal poaching, as well as the rescue and conservation efforts required to keep them alive. The news of this remarkable achievement received widespread media coverage in The Malay Mail, Sin Chew Daily, MSN, News Straits Times and China Press amongst others.
