On 12 April 2019, Dato’ Dr Ooi Kee Beng, Executive Director of Penang Institute & Prof. Dr Pradeep Nair, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus signed an MOA to signify a new-found collaboration. This collaboration provides third year students under the Bachelor of Social Sciences programme the opportunity to undergo an entire year long experiential learning with Penang Institute under the 2U1I programme devised by the former. In conjunction, Dato’ Dr Ooi was also appointed Adjunct Professor for the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Taylor’s University.
The MOA was sign for 5 years duration and the objective as below:
Scope: 1 year industrial placement for the students of Bachelor of Social Science ( Hons.) offered via 2u1i mode. In the final year of the 3-year Bachelor Program, the students of Bachelor of Social Science ( Hons.) will be placed at Penang Institute to complete 24 credits of work based learning.
The academic mentors from Taylor’s University will work with industry supervisors from Penang Institute on the delivery, evaluation and assessment of 24 credits in the final year
Taylor’s University students will be placed in the Penang and/or KL offices, or both.
Taylor’s University may use the logo and the name of the partner institutions on the programme’s promotional material as needed

Dato’ Dr. Ooi Kee Beng (Executive Director) is a renowned intellectual who has been working on nation-building in Asia and Malaysian politics over the last two decades. Prior to this appointment, he was the Deputy Director of ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute, Singapore (2011 – 2017). He has been appointed as an Adjunct Professor at The School of Liberal Arts & Sciences.
