Session with Sharon Wheeler on Internal Communication in Organisations During The COVID-19 Pandemic

The School of Media and Communication organised its Public Relations Webinar #9 on 26th October 2020 with Ms. Sharon Wheeler, Senior Lecturer in Public Relations. She is attached to the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries and Education, University of the West of England (UWE), United Kingdom, the dual award partner of Taylor's University Media and Communication programme. The title of her talk was ‘Internal Communication in Organisations during the COVID-19 Pandemic’.

Her presentation covered various aspects of internal communication in organisations while dealing with the employees especially using the social media platform. She has highlighted several ‘correct’ and ‘wrong’ ways of how some companies in the United Kingdom tackled their internal communication. Her sharing session on internal communication post-COVID-19 issues was a take-home message to all students, in line with the change of public relations practice we see today.

There were 80 participants during this webinar, and they were fully engaged with Sharon’s presentation as the issues discussed were related to United Kingdom and some considered this as a new knowledge. The webinar which was held at 4.30 pm Malaysian time was attended by lecturers, students from Taylor’s University and other universities in the Klang Valley, Penang and UWE. This was the first webinar collaboration between the School of Media and Communication with its partner in UWE.
