The Bachelor of International Hospitality Management is never short of Industry engagements and this round it was the STEP-UP Preparatory workshops gearing them for the homegrown, most coveted Fast Track career pathway, the STEP-UP programme. The first workshop was entitled “Know Your Industry” with Mr. Henny Ong, Certified Hospitality Trainer (CHT) who enlightened the 113 semester 1 students on the 3P's of the industry: Premium Career, Prestigious Place, Positive Mindset; and the 3A's of a Hospitality career aspirant: Attitude, Appearance and Achievements.
The second STEP-UP workshop was titled “Groom up! AND Gear Up!”. The students were excited as the world’s largest hotel chain Marriott International gave a presentation on their global properties and growth in Malaysia. Ms. Jaclyn Low, Market Director Malaysia, Ms. Nik, Human Resource Director, Aloft KL, and Ms. Lisa Jok, Training Executive, Mulu Resorts, were the eminent speakers who shared the various brands of Marriott International, their culture, dress code, vision and core values. The Q&A session was indeed interactive with students asking intriguing questions such as "will the industry revive in 3-4 years?" and "will robots replace people in the industry?" Isn’t this a better way to know your industry? The Marriott journey is indeed a STEP-UP!
