Taylor's University's Master of Counselling Programme has once again showcased its commitment to academic excellence and innovation by securing the prestigious Gold Award at the Kuala Lumpur International Invention and Innovation Symposium 2024. This outstanding accomplishment underscored the dedication and ingenuity of the students behind the winning project titled "Cognitive Learning Enhancement with Augmented Reality (CLEAR)," developed by the Master of Counselling students - Janak Ashok Teckwani and Goh Ian Shen.
The symposium, a renowned global event organized by DIGIT360-Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Startup Company and Nusantara Training and Research, Indonesia, served as a platform for the world’s brightest minds to present cutting-edge solutions. With 231 innovative projects vying for recognition this year, the victory of Taylor's University's Master of Counselling Programme stood out as a significant milestone. The announcement of the results marked a momentous occasion for the programme, highlighting its leadership in the field of counselling and mental health.
The CLEAR project addresses the unique challenges faced by individuals with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) by integrating Augmented Reality (AR) technology into the learning process. This groundbreaking approach leverages immersive 3D experiences to engage multiple senses, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic, thus capturing and sustaining the attention of learners. The AR-enhanced modules are meticulously designed to improve comprehension and retention, offering a transformative learning experience tailored to the needs of those with ADHD.
CLEAR's innovative use of AR technology goes beyond traditional educational methods, making psychoeducation more interactive and accessible. The project incorporates a series of questions to assess learners' understanding, ensuring active engagement and deeper cognitive processing. This approach not only enhances learning outcomes but also fosters a more meaningful connection with the educational material.
A collaboration with Taylor's Mental Health & Well-being Impact Lab initiative, the CLEAR project exemplified the power of interdisciplinary partnerships in tackling complex issues such as mental health and education. By integrating advanced technology with therapeutic practices, the project aimed to make mental health care more accessible to those with ADHD, demonstrating the potential for technology to create positive societal impact.
The Master of Counselling programme at Taylor's University takes immense pride in the achievements of Janak Ashok Teckwani and Goh Ian Shen. Their success at the symposium served as a testament to the innovative thinking, dedication, and collaborative spirit that define the programme. The Gold Award not only recognized their individual contributions but also reflected the collective strength and excellence of the entire Master of Counselling programme at Taylor's University. This achievement underscored the programme's unwavering commitment to fostering an environment where creativity and practical application converge, empowering students to push the boundaries of education and mental health.
