VICTORINOX Swiss Classic "A Knife with No Limits"


Two groups of students from the Diploma in Culinary Arts and Advanced Diploma in Patisserie & Gastronomic Cuisine attended a workshop conducted by the Sales and Marketing Manager from Advance Hotel Supplies (M) Sdn Bhd, Ms. Teo Lay Pin. The workshop aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of knives and how to professionally apply them in the culinary arts.


Advance Hotel Supplies is the main distributor of Victorinox Swiss knives from Switzerland. Victorinox is a well-known knife manufacturer and watchmaker based in the town of Ibach, a village in the municipality of Schwyz, Switzerland. The company was founded in 1884 as Messerfabrik Carl Elsener, the workshop of Karl Elsener in Ibach.

During the workshop, Ms. Lay Pin presented the history of Victorinox and its renowned Swiss Army knives. The students learnt about the different types of knives and their uses, including chef's knives, paring knives, serrated knives and boning knives. Ms. Lay Pin also shared about the importance of blade materials and how they affect the performance and durability of a knife. She covered the topic of sharpening techniques and equipment, knife care and maintenance, basic knife skills and knife safety and handling.


The workshop was a great learning opportunity for the students to enhance their knowledge and skills in culinary arts. They gained practical experience and knowledge that they can apply in their future careers. The workshop also provided the students with insights into the history and innovation of Victorinox, a leading brand in the culinary industry. In conclusion, the workshop was a success and the students left with newfound skills and knowledge.
