Embracing innovation and nurturing young talent, the Asia Pacific Business Events Youth Challenge 2023, orchestrated by the esteemed International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), joined forces with the distinguished GoyangCVB 고양컨벤션뷰로 and Korea MICE Association. Together, a platform that not only fosters emerging professionals in the dynamic business events realm but also provides an exclusive avenue for participants to showcase their ingenious and visionary ideas on the Asia Pacific stage. Drawing participants from over 10 different countries, this year's challenge witnessed the convergence of 50 highly motivated teams, encompassing 100 individuals.

Among these aspiring talents were university/graduate students and young professionals under the age of 30, exemplifying the bright future of the Business Events industry. Remarkably, our very own Year 2 Bachelor of International Events Management (Honours) students, the astute Gurpreet Kaur and the visionary Lee Qian Hui were granted the honour of being shortlisted. Their task was to craft innovative recommendations that can catalyse the growth of convention & exhibition centres through persuasive oral presentations. Navigating the intense crucible of the competition, Gurpreet and Lee faced an expert panel of international judges hailing from Australia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand. Through meticulous deliberation and rigorous questioning spanning 20 minutes, they emerged triumphant, securing a coveted position among the Top 5.

This remarkable achievement was not only a testament to their acumen but also a reflection of the exceptional quality of participants from across Asia Pacific. In the spirit of celebration, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the shortlisted and winning teams. We also express our profound gratitude to the organizers and collaborators, whose efforts have galvanized a new era of excellence in the Business Events arena. As we toast to the young visionaries and their remarkable journey, we look ahead with anticipation to the transformative impact they will undoubtedly imprint on the industry.


The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) announced the debut of MATTA Tourism Career & Education Fair (MTCEF), on September 2, 2023, at Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in conjunction with MATTA Fair. This groundbreaking career event was the result of a strategic collaboration between MATTA and the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events, Taylor’s University, bringing together industry experts, educators and aspiring students for a day of knowledge and career-building opportunities.

“MATTA Tourism Career & Education Fair (MTCEF) is poised to be a pivotal event in the field of tourism, facilitating dialogue, and collaboration among professionals, students, and organizations in the Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, and Events sectors. With 20 exhibitors and an anticipated 100 participants from diverse backgrounds, the event promised to be a hub of innovation and learning,” said Mr. Nigel Wong, the President of MATTA.


The career fair boasted a distinguished lineup of speakers, including Ms. Wan Yon Shahima binti Wan Othman, Chief Customer Officer, Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kandappan Balasubramanian, Associate Professor from School of Hospitality, Tourism & Events, Taylor’s University and Ms. Hannah Pearson, Regional Director APAC for the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA). Together, they provided invaluable insights into the tourism industry’s evolving dynamics.

The MATTA Tourism Career & Education Fair organised by the Malaysian Travel & Tours Association was a brainchild of MATTA Past President YBhgvDatuk Tan Kok Liang and supported by Taylor's University through the leadership of Professor Dr. Neethiahnanthan Ari Ragavan, Executive Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences & Leisure Management which has seen its fruition this year.


Aspiring students and industry enthusiasts will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of educational programmes, internship opportunities, and career prospects offered by esteemed institutions and organizations. The career fair offers a unique platform for attendees to connect with industry professionals, educators, and peers, fostering connections that can shape their future careers and educational paths.” Mr. Nigel Ng ended.

Taylor's Culinary Institute (TCI) delighted to share the recent achievements in the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) programme, which have not only elevated the Institute but also expanded its influence beyond borders. Since the beginning of this year, Taylor’s Culinary Institute has experienced remarkable success in the WSET certification programme, with a particularly strong responses for Level 1 and Level 2. However, the Institute's vision extends far beyond these accomplishments.

In August, TCI embarked on a pioneering journey to broaden its reach and foster international relationships. The Institute was in partnership with The F Studio in Jakarta to introduce a WSET class in Indonesia. The objectives were twofold which to extend the benefits of WSET education beyond our own borders and to also solidify Taylor's Culinary Institute's global presence. Through this strategic partnership, TCI has entered the Indonesian market, poised to capture the attention of a broader audience and tap into the growing demand for wine and spirit education.


The F Studio started in 2017 as lifestyle media, in 2 years and has grown into 4 business unit in lifestyle industry. Working closely with various brand to create a creative collaboration lead to the place where they stand now. The ‘F’ letter of The F People stands for Fabulous, Fantastic, and Fascinating, where people and products with the ‘F’ characteristics have influenced one another and inspired others to achieve ‘fabulous’ moments in life.

During this one-day WSET programme, 20 participants from various industries and companies joined the course at the Grand Kemang Jakarta Hotel. The participants came from diverse backgrounds, including wine suppliers, cigar companies, event organizers, renowned bloggers, glassware suppliers, and hotel employees. They had the privilege of being guided by our Oenology Specialist and certified WSET Trainer, Mr. Reuben Suresh Arthur. During lunch, a sumptuous four-course menu, expertly prepared by the Chefs of Grand Kemang Hotel, was thoughtfully paired with four different types of wines from Yellow Tail, Australia, enhancing the participants' learning experience.

This initiative aligns perfectly with TCI's core values, showcasing unwavering commitment to excellence and global collaboration. The expansion into the Indonesian market reaffirms Taylor's Culinary Institute's position as a trailblazer in culinary education, shaping trends, and setting new standards. The Institute eagerly anticipates continued growth and success on this exciting international journey.
