COVID & Media: Information, Mis-Information & Disinformation in a Global Pandemic


As a gesture of partnership between the School of Communication and Arts, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia and School of Media and Communication, Faculty of Social Sciences and Leisure Management, Taylor’s University (TU), Malaysia, a joint webinar was hosted by UQ on 1st June 2020 with the participation of more than 60 students and staffs from Taylor’s University.


The webinar was conducted by Dr. John Harrison, a journalism academic, from UQ entitled “COVID and the Media: Information, Mis-Information and Disinformation in a Global Pandemic”. He spoke on the impact of media coverage of the pandemic on audiences and how health professionals and politicians utilize various communication channels to disseminate information, the role that social media plays in fostering discourse on the pandemic and the prevalence of misinformation and disinformation is happening in the media.
