In conjunction with Students Professional Development Week, School of Education had invited Dr. Kiri Gould, Programme Director at University of Auckland, New Zealand as the speaker for a webinar entitled “Professionalism and Teacher Identity”. The webinar which was held on 12th October 2021. Different understandings of professionalism require a critical approach and a strong sense of personal teacher identity.


Identity is a strong element in teachers professional lives and a resource that teachers draw on to explain and justify teaching decisions and relationships with others. The webinar was attended by more than 190 students and staffs which provided the opportunity for critical engagement with ideas about professionalism and reflection on participants own teacher identities.

Taylor’s Culinary Institute has recently conducted the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2, a 3- day programme. WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is a beginner- to intermediate-level qualification exploring wines, suitable for industry professionals and wine enthusiasts. This qualification is intended for beginners wishing to learn about a wide range of wines or those seeking to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines.


Our Oenology Specialist, Reuben Arthur Suresh taught on the theories of wine and skills in wine tasting to the participants. Participants were given the opportunity to learn principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce. Through a combination of tasting and theory Mr. Reuben explained the factors that impact style and quality and learn how to describe these wines with confidence.

Ms. Sam Jeng Mun, Senior Lecturer and Clinical Psychologist, Taylor’s University has written a column for the luxury digital platform Buro 24/7 Malaysia. Buro 24/7 Malaysia provides fashion, beauty, culture, lifestyle, watches, and jewellery news. Ms. Sam contributes to the field of lifestyle and culture by writing articles about psychology and current events.


With a strong desire to raise public awareness about mental health and in improving mental health literacy, she plans to write more articles about de-stigmatizing mental health and assisting individuals who may or may not struggle with mental health conditions to better understand themselves. So far, she has contributed articles on Autism Spectrum Disorder in honour of World Autism Awareness Day, Successful Aging in Women in honour of International Women's Day, and gender fluidity. As a result of this opportunity to this luxury digital platform, she will be contributing more articles on a regular basis.
