Bachelor of Culinary Management Programme from the School of Food Studies and Gastronomy had recently organized an Online Masterclass Series titled "Plant-based Protein as Meat Replacement". The Masterclass Series was hosted and moderated by Chef Nadzri Mohd Alim, Taylor’s University and presented by Adjunct Senior Lecturer, Taylor's University and Executive Chef Rene Johari, Double-Tree by Hilton Dubai, Business Bay on 6th October 2021.


The objective of the masterclass is to uncover plant-based protein as meat replacement for menu creation and development. Chef Rene conducted a live demonstration of a dish using plant-based protein. This event has given an exposure to students and lecturers. We received very good responses and questions at the end of the session. We had 110 participants, from a mixture of students, hoteliers, restaurant owners, and lecturers.

Centre for Languages organized a webinar titled "Tech and Teach English" involving five panelists on 17th September 2021. The webinar focused on using technology in an English class and how to create an engaging learning environment. Two panelists from Taylor’s University talked about Live Worksheet, Jamboard, Miro, and Adobe Spark. We also invited an English lecturer from the English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC) to talk about an exciting class platform, Classcraft.


As the target audience for this webinar session were school teachers, we also invited Ms. Nazira from Sekolah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 9 (1), who is known as the edu-influencer TwinKL ambassador, to talk about on Bamboozled, Teacher Made, Kid podcast, and Classkick. Joined us as panelist was also Sir Ahmad Shahrul Azhan Ibrahim or known as Sir ASAI, a Tiktok star among secondary students in Kelantan. The session received around 110 participants from different schools and institutions.


Participants were also very excited and gave positive feedback:-

  • Speakers shared many apps and tools to make online teaching more interactive and fun, which was helpful for teachers

  • The speakers, topic, and material were relevant to today’s teaching experience

  • All the sessions were very informative and educational

On 24th September 2021, Dr. Chong Li Choo and Chef Sharizan Azali from Bachelor of Science (Hons.) (Culinology) programme, School of Food Studies & Gastronomy were invited to conduct a virtual workshop during the Bali Taman Rama School & Taman Rama Intercultural School Virtual Education Fair 2021.


The workshop entitled “Incredible Plant-based Ice-cream: A scoop of Sweet Science” was an interesting workshop which allowed participants to learn the science behind ice-cream making and the stages involved in developing plant-based ice-cream, from ideation to creating a prototype. Some of the innovative ice-cream created by the Culinology® students were also showcased during the workshop.


The expertise of Dr. Chong Li Choo and Chef Sharizan in conducting this interesting virtual workshop was highly appreciated by all the participants.
