Taylor’s University School of Food Studies & Gastronomy (SFSG) organized the 2nd God of Thorns Pastry Competition 2021 in collaboration with Leslie Art Patisserie on 27 November 2021. The 2nd God of Thorns Pastry Competition was in search of bright, aspiring dessert chefs who are able to create and showcase a modern dessert based on the Musang King Durian paste. Ten aspiring chefs participated in the event and exhibited inspiring, innovative dessert-making techniques. It also turned out to be a good networking and sharing session among participants and judges with extensive industry experience.

The school would like to congratulate Daniella Carissa, pastry enthusiast from Taylor’s Culinary Institute (TCI) and currently student of Advanced Diploma in Patisserie & Gastronomic Cuisine programme in winning a Gold Medal and Best Artistic Award for her creation.


This yearly competition by Chef Leslie Teong, who has carried our Malaysia Flag to compete in the World Pastry Cup. Chef Leslie who is a durian lover has a vision to bring this competition to the world stage on promoting this amazing fruit. Daniella triumphed with her recreation of a normal Choux Puff in an innovate Cylinder shape paired with Durian Ganache Montee and Gula Melaka Cremeux.

In conjunction with the celebration of 100 years of Sultan Idris Training College (SITC), Maktab Perguruan Sultan Idris (MPSI), Institut Perguruan Sultan Idris (IPSI) and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), CONNECT 2021 is an ASEAN Competition on Photojournalism, Digital Poster, 1-Minute Video, Promo Pitching and Public Speaking. The students particularly in Media and Communication from Malaysia and ASEAN countries were invited to take part in five (5) exciting competitions and an online workshop which took place for a month from 1 September to 30 September 2021.


School of Media and Communication (SOMAC) Year 1 student, Mishalini Ganesan from Mass Communication Programme presented her video entitled "My Culture My Pride" which has won first prize in a 1-Minute Video Competition. Mishalini Ganesan has received prize money of RM500.00 from UPSI, Malaysia.

Taylor’s Culinary Institute (TCI) conducted a Community Service Initiative in December as an initiative to give back to the community. As a programme that serves and feeds customers, TCI provided food refreshments and drinks to Destiny Starting Point Welfare Association in Klang.


Destiny Home is specially designed for delinquent boys and girls from age 7-17. The home’s aim is to restore these lives that have been lured by undesirable elements and rebuild them to become a healthy and productive.


Lecturers from the institute, Chef Massyittah Omar and Chef Azuralisda Mohd Ghazali were greeted by 80 over children upon their arrival to receive delicious yuzu muffin, chocolate cacao bread and thirst quenching mocktails.

We look forward to hosting these children in Taylor’s Culinary Institute next year for a sit-down lunch.


The purpose of this event was to give back to the community and to provide the underprivilege children an opportunity to see how does the hospitality and tourism industry work for the future.
