Amid the vibrant energy of Taylor’s University Progression Fest 2025, the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Culinology programme captivated pre-university students with an immersive showcase that blended food science, creativity, and innovation. Designed to spark curiosity and inspire exploration, the event offered hands-on experiences that brought the multidisciplinary nature of Culinology to life. Led by passionate lecturers and students, the booth featured interactive activities that demonstrated how culinary arts and food science converge in real-world applications.

A key highlight was the VR Sensory Evaluation Experience, where participants sampled the same beverage in different immersive virtual environments. By contrasting serene natural landscapes with bustling urban scenes, attendees witnessed firsthand how sensory perception, particularly taste and overall product acceptance, can be influenced by external stimuli. This engaging activity offered an eye-opening introduction to sensory science and consumer behaviour.

Another crowd favourite was the “Rainbow Beverage” demonstration, where visitors learned about the science of density and how to layer liquids to create striking, multicoloured drinks. Both visually stunning and scientifically enriching, this hands-on activity introduced core concepts of chemistry and physics in a fun and accessible way.

Progression Fest 2025 proved to be a valuable platform for showcasing the distinctive features of Taylor’s Culinology programme. Many prospective students expressed surprise and enthusiasm at discovering the innovative ways food science can be applied beyond the kitchen. The Taylor’s Culinology team is proud to have contributed to the event’s success and remains committed to cultivating the next generation of food innovators and science-driven culinary professionals.

On 26th April 2025, Taylor’s University proudly hosted the annual American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Challenge, an electrifying event that brought together 33 teams from 11 schools. These bright young minds eagerly embraced hands-on learning as they tackled real-world challenges across the STEM disciplines.

The day began with a warm welcome and opening remarks by Dr. Wong Yau Hsiung, Chairperson of the event and Stream Coordinator of the ADTP Engineering Department. This was followed by an inspiring keynote address by Professor Dr. Sriram Sundararajan, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Iowa State University. He shared thought-provoking insights into the evolving global landscape of STEM education, highlighting its transformative impact and the limitless possibilities it offers future generations.

A detailed briefing on the day’s challenges set the stage for a dynamic morning, as teams dove into designing and developing creative prototypes. The atmosphere buzzed with energy, innovation, and collaboration. After a well-deserved lunch break, excitement peaked during the Judging Session. Judges and spectators alike were impressed by the originality, problem-solving skills, and technical ingenuity on display.

As the event drew to a close, participants reconvened for a Career Exploration & Pathways session, where they received valuable guidance on academic routes beyond Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). The session served as a meaningful springboard for students to chart their next steps with clarity and confidence. The ADTP STEM Challenge concluded with a joyful Prize Giving Ceremony and a commemorative group photo celebrating the collective achievements of all participants. Each student left not only with enhanced knowledge and skills but also with a deeper passion for innovation and a renewed belief in their potential.

Stay inspired. Stay inventive. Keep building the future.

Taylor’s University’s School of Media and Communication (SOMAC) continues to set the benchmark for academic excellence and industry relevance. Its final-year Public Relations consultancy team, ProPassion, emerged victorious at the prestigious Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA) Asia-Pacific (APAC) Awards 2025, winning the Best Student Campaign Award under the Student Campaign category. Held on 27 March 2025 in Singapore, the award ceremony recognises outstanding public relations campaigns that align with global industry standards.

Guided by Dr. G. Manickam Govindaraju, ProPassion Consult, a student-led consultancy under Bachelor of Mass Communication (Public Relations and Event Management) programme delivered the winning “Jom Lenggong” campaign. Comprising twelve final-year students, the team operated within a real-world consultancy model, gaining invaluable experience in client engagement, strategic development, and campaign execution. Conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Perak, the project promoted Lenggong Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its archaeological significance and untapped potential in geotourism.

“Jom Lenggong” distinguished itself among international entries, many submitted by seasoned industry professionals, for its strategic execution and measurable impact. ProPassion’s success stemmed from robust public relations strategies, clearly defined objectives, and tactical precision. Key campaign components included social media activations, campus events, a digital newsletter, media outreach initiatives, a project video, and a high-impact Public Relations showcase attended by industry partners and MOTAC officials.

Special thanks are extended to Tuan Muhammad Aminuddin bin Abdul Majid, Director of MOTAC Perak, for facilitating essential logistics and enhancing the students’ cultural immersion. The project also benefited from the support of Dr. Nagathisen Katahenggam, Deputy Director of the Sustainable Tourism Impact Lab, and Dr. Thanam Subramaniam, Programme Director from the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Events, who championed a multidisciplinary approach. Creative mentorship by Mr. Jason Desmond, Channel Manager of SOMAC played a pivotal role in producing the campaign’s compelling promotional video, vividly bringing Lenggong’s story to life.

The success of the “Jom Lenggong” campaign exemplifies Taylor’s University’s commitment to purpose-led education and experiential learning. This remarkable achievement not only cements Taylor’s leadership in media and communication education but also highlights the transformative power of hands-on learning in shaping the next generation of communication leaders.
